The Resort Collina d’Oro covers an area of 250’000 square metres and is located in Agra, on a hilltop, at an altitude of 500 meters to the south of Lugano. An enchanting landscape surrounded by lush nature and bathed in sunlight most of the year, with breath-taking panoramic views over the Alps and the Lake.
This magical location, where the colours and sinuous forms of the mountains merge into the pure water of the lake, inspired many famous artists and writers such as Hermann Hesse and Erich Kästner.
From “Deutsches Haus” to Wellness Resort
Silvio Tarchini, founder of the Outlet-Centre FoxTown in Mendrisio, understood the potential of this “golden” location and acquired the property in Agra. As the old structure could not be maintained, the “Deutsches Haus” was demolished in 2009 and the luxury Resort Collina d’Oro was built. The famous architect Ettore Mocchetti, editor of the prestigious magazine Architectural Digest, was responsible for the complete reconstruction.
A soon as the guest enters in the lobby, he finds a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere: the refined luxury furniture in red, black and grey invites to rest and relax and grants highly-quality living standards, valued by the warm and welcoming service provided by the Director Marcello Marcoli and his staff.
Rooms to enjoy a relaxing stay
The guests can choose among 16 double rooms and 30 suites divided into Junior, Superior and Deluxe, as well as a Camelia Suite (200 m2) and a Magnolia Suite (250 m2). Beside all the basic equipment, Junior, Superior and Deluxe Suites boast a comfortable living room with a fully equipped kitchenette.
All rooms are elegantly furnished, bright and airy; the brown oak floor and the creamy Mazzaro limestone in the bathrooms convey a warm and stylish atmosphere, enriched by an enchanting panoramic view over the lake or the park.
Apartments for sale and for rent
The Resort also includes 43 luxury apartments, real architectural jewels designed by Ettore Mocchetti, with surfaces varying from130 to 400 square metres, which can be either bought or rented for short as well as long-term periods. All the apartments have direct access to the car park and some of them are on two floors. They are the ideal solution for those who need privacy without renouncing to hotel services.
Big windows, loggias and private gardens recall the magnificent elements of the “Deutsches Haus”, harmonically combined with modern architectural styles and innovative technologies (lights, heating, ventilation etc. can be handled electronically through a touch panel, directly near the entrance door).
Real beauty comes from inside
The Resort Collina is one of the worldwide leading holistic hotels and resorts whose aim is improving guests’ lifestyle. A goal achieved in the SPA & Fitness Centre of the Resort, the ideal place to unwind from the stress of daily life and indulge in pure relaxation, immersed in nature and tranquillity.
Easily accessible to both apartment owners and hotel guests, the centre includes outdoor and indoor pools, Turkish bath, sauna, multi-sensory shower, Kneipp Path and a modern gym with personal trainer, equipped with the latest generation Technogym training facilities.
In the 1’000-square-meter-big SPA there are also numerous treatment rooms to make guests enjoy moments of pure relaxation and wellbeing thanks to different kinds of massages, beauty treatments, hydrotherapy, mud applications, oxygen therapy and the innovative Floating Therapy, a one-man pool filled with a high saturation of salts, which has particularly effective therapeutic and regenerative effects.
Culinary delights from the Mediterranean cuisine
In an elegant and welcoming atmosphere, the Hotel Restaurant offers Mediterranean dishes inspired by a light cuisine which is both healthy and refined at the same time, enriched by the seasonal vegetables from the organic garden located in the park of the Resort and by an exclusive wine list, which also includes the red wine “Collina d’Oro” produced using the grapes of the Resort’s vineyard.
Particular attention is paid to food intolerances, with vegetarian and gluten-free dishes. The Honesty Bar is the ideal location for an afternoon tea or a tasty drink and, during the warm season, it is even possible to enjoy delicious snacks and drinks at the Pool House Restaurant near the swimming pool, to indulge in pure relaxation lulled by the gentle sounds of nature.
In harmony with nature
Nature and ecological aspects play a fundamental role for the Resort Collina d’Oro. The whole complex covers a woodland area of 250‘000 square meters, a part of which has been retained as natural parkland. The old vineyards that surround the Resort give the property a unique charm and, to enhance the environment even more, new tree species have been planted
Great care and attention was paid to ecological aspects even in the choice of energy supply. The Resort has a multi-source heating system based primarily on the use of geothermal sources: a technologically advanced solution achieving a drastic reduction in CO2 emissions.
The Collina d’Oro became famous even because of Hermann Hesse. The famous writer, poet and painter born in 1877 in Calw (Baden-Württemberg), lived in the Collina d’Oro from 1919 till his death in 1962, in a village called Montagnola, which he mentions in the book "Klingor’s last Summer" and where today we can find a museum dedicated to his memory (the only one in Switzerland). Moreover, there is a “theme path” that connects the nicest places of the Collina d’Oro, which played an important role in Hesse’s life and inspirited him for his works. In this magical environment, the writer found peace and tranquillity, an enjoyable climate and natural beauty. Besides having written many famous books such as “Siddhartha” and “Narcissus and Goldmund”, in Montagnola, Hesse also became poet and painter: he realised numerous watercolours representing the landscape of the Collina d'Oro.
So if you are one of those who needs a reason - now you have many! But no reasons required when you fallow your heart calling.
