Knowing the real Trancoso means staying on the Quadrado, its picturesque, UNESCO-protected town square. Half UXUA's casas here date back 500-years to the village's founding. The hotel was crafted using traditional techniques, reclaimed materials, and antiques, all by local artisans collaborating with designer Wilbert Das.
Authenticity is the greatest luxury a visit to Brazil's Bahia state can offer, and living among native families in the heart of old Trancoso delivers the experience naturally, in style and comfort, and with an ethos of sustainability. 5-star hotel service, a stunning rustic beach lounge, and an innovative organic spa complete the perfect holiday.
Each Casa of UXUA is individual inside and out with an architectural mix of Southern Bahian and Indian influences alongside a rustic modernism. Antiques and Bahian art fit well with locally crafted handmade furniture and fixtures created in the hotel’s workshop by Trancoso craftsmen. The houses are each decorated and built differently, but all include king-size beds, audio system for I-Pod and MP3 players, wireless internet, LCD TV (with cable TV) and DVD, air conditioner and fan, bar and dinner table.
Overlooking the pool, the Bar, Restaurant and Lounge have a cushion-filled raised mezzanine, with sofas that are lined with recycled canvas, a hand-carved hardwood bar and an exquisite table 3 meters long which lays on top of a cashew tree trunk. The walls are made out of pau a pique, which is a natural construction method that are built by native tribes such as Pataxo, from the south of Bahia, that also contributed to the lamps and decoration for this space.
The UXUA beach bar is open to the general public. The bar is open daily from 10:00 am until sunset and also here provided and organize special dinners and private events to the guests. It is located next to Rio Trancoso, between Nativos and Coqueiros beaches. It is less than a 08 minute walk from the Quadrado. Facing the ocean, with different kinds of wood sofas and white pillows that gives the whole lounge vibe, the sofas are underneath bamboo pergolas (arbor made from columns and a trellis roof), that minimizes the strong bahian sun.
The menu is filled with a sophisticated version of the typical bahian food, while the guests enjoy the pleasant atmosphere, only hearing the best of Brazilian music and world music as well, and also enjoying the natural sound of the ocean.
The Spa area features both indoor and outdoor treatment rooms where guests can indulge in a variety of wellness and local beauty treatments. The spa boasts a Jacuzzi and a studio for instruction in yoga, as well as for private courses in capoeria and forro dancing, popular local activities around which the social life of Trancoso turns.
Various styles of massage are available not only at the spa, but also can be enjoyed by guests in the comfort of each casa.
