Experience thrilling Serengeti game drives and rare opportunities to connect with the local people and culture. Then return to the Safari Lodge located in Serengeti National Park, where 77 secluded guest rooms, spa and infinity pool promise a luxurious respite during your African safari adventures.
When you start planning your Serengeti adventure, you’ll soon learn about “the Big Five.” These are the five most popular animals to search for while on your African safari: the lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and rhinoceros.
The Big Five
“Big” doesn’t have to do with size. The term originated with big game hunters, who deemed these the most challenging large animals to corner and shoot. But in the Serengeti National Park, the only shooting is done with a camera!
Here’s more about the Big Five:
- Lions are remarkably easy to spot. The Serengeti is believed to hold Africa’s largest lion population – with more than 3,000 lions in the park.
- Leopards are more challenging, since their camouflage pattern makes them difficult to see on the ground. You’re more likely to find a leopard resting in a tall tree.
- Buffalo live in the Serengeti in very healthy numbers. You might witness a herd of 1,000 or more.
- African elephants travel in herds of 2 to 24. They are frequent visitors to our watering holes.
- The rhinoceros can be the most challenging animal to spot in the Serengeti. But with an expert safari guide, you might get lucky!
Why not create your own personal Big Five checklist? After all, there are over 70 species of mammals in the Serengeti, including zebra, wildebeest, cheetah, gazelle, hyena, impala, baboon and giraffe.
For birdwatchers, the Serengeti is a dream destination with about 500 bird species, including the ostrich, secretary bird, lovebird and vulture.
For the perfect balance of safari adventure and blissful relaxation, here at Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti they have prepared Adventure and Rejuvenation offer, a four-day itinerary making your action-oriented vacation also inherently recharging.
Adventure and Rejuvenation, 4 days

Africology's cellulite detox massage oil treats fatty deposits and eliminates toxins.

Mbuyu Experience (90 minutes)
The Mbuyu Experience begins upon arrival at the Spa, where a freshly prepared baobab infusion offers pre-treatment hydration ahead of the Lodge's signature 90 minute Kifaa Massage, which uses pure, organic baobab massage oil. Following the treatment, the Mbuyu goodness is shared through a nutritious baobab tasting sampler, and to complete the experience, a locally made decorative baobab tree souvenir and collection of recipes containing the full nutritional benefits of baobab are available to take home. The baobab flour and fruit are also available for purchase from the Spa's boutique.
Sunset Kopje Nature Walk and Meditation (75 minutes)
Maasai will guide you along a short, uphill, nature trail to the top of the sunset kopje, where you will take in panoramic views of the sun setting over the Serengeti plains. Pause for a few moments to keep a mental souvenir of this experience, with a guided meditation from yogi.
